Our client is seeking an experienced, proactive, strategic, and hands-on National Procurement Manager to establish and lead the procurement function in their fast-paced national courier business. This newly created role offers the opportunity to shape procurement frameworks and practices that support their extensive logistics and distribution network across South Africa.

📍 Location: Head Office, Johannesburg
💰 Salary: R800,000 – R1,500,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Monthly Salary: Approximately R66,000 – R125,000 (depending on experience)

Key Responsibilities:

• Establish a centralized procurement function and develop a procurement strategy aligned with company growth and operational needs.

• Build, lead, and manage the sourcing, contracting, and supplier management of goods and services across various spend categories:

  • Warehouse equipment and consumables.

  • Fleet and vehicle procurement (purchase, leasing, maintenance).

  • Fuel, tyres, vehicle spares, and consumables.

  • Locker and kiosk infrastructure.

  • IT and communication systems.

  • Courier uniforms and packaging materials.

  • Facilities, utilities, and outsourced services (e.g., cleaning, security).

• Negotiate supplier contracts, service level agreements, pricing, and terms with a focus on cost savings, risk reduction, and quality.

• Implement supplier performance monitoring and drive continuous improvement.

• Work closely with Operations, Finance, and Fleet Management teams to understand needs and ensure timely procurement support.

• Manage procurement processes and cost control.

• Ensure compliance with company policies, legal requirements, and industry standards.

• Oversee and optimize inventory management within operations, stationery, and uniform departments.

• Support business growth with timely procurement planning for new locations and rollouts.

• Manage procurement-related budgets, cost forecasting, and spend analysis.

• Build and mentor the junior procurement team.

Requirements & Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related fields.

• CIPS or equivalent professional certification.

• Minimum 5-10 years of procurement experience in courier, logistics, transport, warehousing-intensive, or FMCG industries.

• Proven experience in strategic sourcing, contract negotiation, supplier management, and a track record of cost savings.

• Strong understanding of facilities, fleet, operational, and infrastructure-related procurement, with experience managing procurement across multiple categories.

• Demonstrated experience in leading or establishing procurement processes/systems.

• Proficient in MS Excel and ERP/procurement systems (SAP).

• Working knowledge of South African procurement laws, BBBEE, and supply chain compliance.

• Experience in managing or mentoring staff.

Desirable:

• Knowledge of parcel locker and kiosk technologies/sourcing.

• Experience in national procurement across multiple sites/branches.

• Exposure to sustainability or green procurement initiatives.

• Onderhandel verskafferkontrakte, diensvlakooreenkomste, pryse en terme met fokus op koste-besparing, risiko-vermindering en gehalte.

• Implementeer verskafferprestasiemonitering en dryf deurlopende verbetering.

• Werk naby saam met die Operasies, Finansies en Vlootbestuurspan om behoeftes te verstaan en tydige verkrygingsondersteuning te verseker.

• Bestuur verkrygingsprosesse en koste-beheer.

Vereistes en Kwalifikasies:

• Baccalaureusgraad in Verkryging, Voorsieningskettingbestuur, Logistiek, Besigheidsadministrasie of verwante velde.

• CIPS of soortgelyke professionele sertifisering.

• Minimum 5-10 jaar verkrygingservaring in koerier, logistiek, vervoer, pakhuisintensiewe of FMCG bedrywe.

• Bewese ervaring in strategiese verkryging, kontrakonderhandeling, verskafferbestuur en 'n rekord van koste-besparing.

• Sterk begrip van fasiliteite, vloot, operasionele en infrastruktuur-verwante verkryging, met ervaring in die bestuur van verkrygings oor verskeie kategorieë.
